9th Walton Beaver Scouts

Fun and friends, gaining new skills and creating lifelong memories.

Beavers, for 6-8 year olds, is all about growing and learning in mighty ways. From launching rockets to building dens, playing games to taking part in “I’m A Beaver Get Me Outta Here” trials, our meetings are full of chatter, smiles and laughter! We also participate in a range of extra activities, such as hikes, sleepovers and fun activity days.

Our experienced and enthusiastic Beaver leaders are proudly committed to ensuring that our Beavers have lots of fun by operating a two-year programme of activities designed to enable our Beavers to develop a wide range of skills, culminating by earning the section’s highest award – the Chief Scout’s Bronze award.

Some of the things we get up to include:

Learning new skills

Beavers is all about learning new skills, from tying shoelaces and looking after our teeth all the way to building dens and camp craft, and everything and anything in between.

Making new friends

The current motto for Beaver Scouts is “Be prepared”, but previously it was “Fun and friends”. Whilst we are always prepared, Beavers is still all about fun and friends, whether they are human or not!

Getting outdoors

We like to get outdoors when we can, be it for rambles, nature walks, sporting activities, or even things like pond dipping.

Local visits

With so many amazing things on our doorstep, we like to get out into the local area and visit some of the great places nearby to us. Our evening out at Brooklands Museum is a favourite as we are all future 9th Walton Air Scouts.

Helping in the community

Part of our Beaver promise is to be kind and helpful, and we live up to the promise by getting out in the community to do things like litter picking and helping plant out at the Elmbridge Community Eco Hub.

Beaver Sleepovers

We go on sleepovers a couple of times a year, either with the other sections of 9th Walton, or other Beaver colonies within Walton and Weybridge District. Sleepovers are tons of fun and form the perfect introduction into camping, which continues into older sections.

Being creative

Often we will make things during our meetings and trips out – we’ve made aeroplanes made from paper and straws, gifts such as cards and decorated homeware, and even the odd edible creation too.

Exploring cultures and traditions

As Beavers, we are welcoming of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds. We actively explore, learn about and embrace various cultures and traditions, be it our own or another.

Adventurous activities

One of the cornerstones of scouting is adventure, and Beavers are no different. Our Beavers have enjoyed a range of activities, including hiking, orienteering, climbing and caving.

I’m a Beaver, Get Me Outta Here!

An annual 9th Walton tradition, Beavers spend the meeting tackling a range of “trials”. Be ready to try and grab things with anything but your hands, and don’t forget your swimming goggles! Don’t worry though, there are no real bush creatures!

Events within our District

We also meet up with other Beaver colonies within the Walton and Weybridge District, for events such as the annual tug-of-war competition, hikes, activity days such as Science Day, and sleepovers.

Parades

Our two main parades of the year are St George’s Day, in honour of the Patron Saint of Scouting, and Remembrance Sunday, as we pay our respects to those who have fought for us in wars and conflicts
